Character Interview: Micah Condie from Helen Boswell's Mythology series

We have a special treat for you today, lovelies! Remember several moons ago when we teamed up with Laura from Little Read Riding Hood and interviewed Micah Condie from Helen Boswell's Mythology series about what it was like being a book boyfriend? (You can read that interview HERE). Well, Micah's got a new book that releases TODAY, and you know what that means! Yeppers, we've got another joint interview for you!

Character Interview: Micah Condie

Janice: Hi you two! *waves* Since we had so much fun doing a joint interview with you last time, Micah, Laura and I thought it would join forces again to torture...I mean, talk to you...about your new book, Mythology: The Wicked. Before we dive into all the book-y stuff, though, there is a Very Important Question we need to clear up first. 

Who do you love more, Micah - me or Laura? And remember, Christmas is just around the corner, so Santa is watching! We wouldn't want you to end up on his naughty list for not being truthful ;) 

Micah: I'm a little bit old to believe in Santa, don'tcha think? And I will delve into book-y stuff. That's like asking me who I love more, my family or Hope. I love you both. *reads the book dedication* Yep.

J: Now see, when I read what you wrote there, all I see is "blah blah blah I LOVE YOU blah blah blah*. That's answer enough for me! But I digress. Since you *insist* on getting down to book business, let's do it! 

The Wicked is your second book. What's that like? Was there more pressure this time around, or less? 

Laura: Wait wait wait ... hold up. We all KNOW Micah loves me more. I am nicer. And he takes me flying. All the time. I even helped his author figure out the best way for him to fly while carrying someone. It was tough work, but someone had to do it. ;-)

Now go ahead and answer the evil queen's question.

M: You two are killing me. Literally. 

Okay, so yes, this is the second book. It was definitely more of a challenge because this one has my POV where the first one didn't, and so we had to make sure that I stayed true to me and fit what readers might remember from book one -- but add more layers to me as my thoughts became known. But I also go through some changes in this second book, so I had to transition within that POV to show those changes. So yeah, it was harder. But more fun. :) 

L: I noticed you felt you had to keep things from Hope ... which made me want to smack you upside your head. Why didn't you share everything with her? Do you not trust her or were you trying to protect her, or is there some other "reason"?

M: Right. In retrospect, maybe I should have. I guess I was worried that she would have taken that information and gone off by herself to try to fix the problem. She and I are a little bit stubborn like that. What can I say -- we're human (sort of). 

J: There are a lot of big changes and challenges in this book. Your author really shook things up! Tell us about that. Did you ever think to yourself, "What is my author doing?!" or "Man, I'm not sure we're going to make it through this"? (No spoilers, of course, but we won't object to teasers and hints!)

M: Let me just say this. If I didn't know how much my author loved writing and writing my POV in particular, I would have been worried. ;)

And yeah, no spoilers, but now that book three is on the horizon, I'm still a little worried...

J: Wait....worried?! *looks at Laura* Oh great, now she is panicking that her sweet Micah might be in danger! She's....omg, she is hyperventilating! Nice going, demon boy! *rushes to Laura's side* Deep breaths, Laura. Deep breaths!!

M: Oops, sorry. My bad. *looks to Laura* You okay, sweet queen? Good thing you didn't need mouth-to-mouth... *evil grins*

L: I think I will be OK ... Thanks Janice. And Micah, I may yet need mouth to mouth ...

So, let's talk Jonathan. We learn a lot more about him in this book. Do you feel you got to know him better? Do you see him any differently?

M: Ha. That's really one of the big questions, isn't it? Both Hope and I learn a lot of things about him in this book -- not just about his past, but about his views on things. I'll put it this way... He is Hope's mentor. Not mine. 

J: Jonathan.....yeah. Totally feel ya on that one, demon boy. He is going to have to work his way back into my good graces. (Do evil queens have good graces? lol)

So you and Hope didn't get to spend as much time together as you did in the last book. Was that difficult?

M: Haha. Now, don't judge Jon 'til you read the final version, evil queen. And I KNOW evil queens don't have good graces... Oh, wait. That wasn't the question, was it? 

Uh, YEAH, that was really difficult. We had several great scenes together, though, and I'm kinda hoping they'll pull me through for a while. (And the readers too.) ;)

J: Yes. THOSE SCENES. Let's talk about them, shall we? :P

Things got kinda sizzly between you and Hope. Not that we are complaining, mind you, but we are curious.....What can we expect in book 3? (The correct answer here is "more, and then some!")

M: More, and then some. (Hey, I know when to obey orders.) 

I'm trying to think of a way to answer this without spoiling anything, and I just can't. Lol. 

J: And people say demons can't be taught. Good demon boy. *pats your head*

You stepped outside your good-boy comfort zone a bit in this book & did things that may raise a few eyebrows among your fans. Beta readers referred to this new you as Micah 2.0. What can you tell us about that? Was Micah 2.0 always there and we just didn't see it before, or did circumstances force him out of you?

M: Yeah, I did. I see Micah 2.0 as a mixture of what he could have been had he accepted his "demon-ness" right from the start, and the old Micah with his values from when he was focused on fighting off his personal demons.

And yes, I know I referred to myself in 3rd person up there. Micah is in a weird mood tonight. 

J: Don't worry, Janice knows all about your weirdness.....gah, now you have me doing it! Thanks a lot lol.

I think it is the other queen's turn to ask a question. She has been awfully quiet. Probably fantasizing about that mouth-to-mouth you teased her with earlier.... ;)

L: Sorry sorry, I was having Micah dreams ...

Some pretty ... intense things happen to you at the end of the book. How are you holding up? Or have things been too crazy for you to even really think about it? *holds you*

M: *holds you back* I haven't had too much time to process everything. Or to grieve... 

J: Poor demon boy. I'd offer my condolences, but it looks like Laura's got that covered ;). You might want to be careful, though. She may not be able to resist temptation when you hold her like that. She might even....whoa, hands off the demon boy's butt, Laura! Sheesh, we can't take anywhere, can we? *pries Laura off Micah* Sorry about that, M. She gets a little carried away when you're around.

L: NOOOOO!!!!!!! *clings to Micah* HE NEEDS ME

J: Oh for heaven's sake... *rolls eyes*. Are you sure you weren't a boa constrictor in a previous life? I'm only asking because our poor demon boy is starting to turn blue from you hugging him to death.....

M: *cough* *gasp* I'm okay... I think. Thanks for looking out for me, evil queen ;)

J: No problem. Hopefully she will behave herself from now on. *glares at Laura*

Alright, moving right along....

If you could wave a magic wand and forget about all this pesky demon/guardian business for a day, what would you do and where would you go?

M: I'd let Hope throw a dart on a bulletin board with the names of her fav destinations and take her to wherever the dart landed :)  

L: That is so sweet :-)

Do you really trust your life in your author's hands? I mean she has put you through some pretty terrible things, and it almost seems she is hell bent on keeping you and Hope apart. I have a spare room, you can always move in with me.

M: *cough* spoiler alert, Laura *cough*

I don't have a choice but to put my life in my author's hands. ;)

Yeah, I get what you mean, though. Things got a little crazy in book two... I may actually need a vacay after all of that. *eyes the guest room* *waves at David*

L: I didn't think that was a spoiler, I was just saying that your author might not be trustworthy when it comes to you. I am very protective of my demon boy.

M: Yes, and that is why you are the sweet queen :)

*waits for evil queen to hit me with the final question*

J: Sweet, schmeet. Me, I loooove all the risky, WTF-OMG moments Micah's author puts him in. In fact, I petitioned for more of them! ;)

L: I didn't sign that petition. *jumps between you and the demon boy* I will save you!

J: Aaaaand here she goes again. *pushes Laura away* Down, girl!

Alright, last question (make that questions lol):  What's up next for you, Hope and the gang? Has your author given you any idea what she has planned for you all? We know there is a third book planned, but is it the last one, or will there be more in the series?

M: You two crack me up. What's the female equivalent of a bromance?.... Just curious ;)

Plans - a short vacation, then onto Book 3. We'd like to extend the series for as long as we can. She has lots of ideas -- I just don't know any of them yet. *looks nervous* 

J: Don't worry, demon boy. I'll make sure she doesn't treat you too badly. You trust me, right? ;)

L: I don't trust you, so I don't think my Micah does either. Our souls are connected.

J: Awww, you mean you're like soul BFF's? That's so cute! Do you braid each other's hair too? lol

L: Janice, I know you are just jealous of our special connection. Don’t worry though - I hear Jonathan may still be available ;-)

J: Cool, I’ll jump right on him. I meant jump right on that. I mean….oh, heck with it, I give up LOL.

It's been loads of fun chatting with you both, but this evil queen's gotta go. Work to do, lives to destroy - you know, the usual evil queen stuff ;)
